Well the great British summer was kind to us on our first ever Rookwood – no rain and a dose of humidity – meant the festival opened to scorching heat!
Music played across two stages with local band Chalk Flowers opening the acoustic stage as the festival got underway. During the afternoon festival goers wondered over the meadow to the far corner where it was brimming with children and adults alike having a go at the hula hooping, juggling and badminton. As the afternoon heat wound down the hidden chill out area came into it’s own with twinkling lights and lasers in the trees.
Deborah Bonham certainly made Rookwood rock with an astounding set accompanied by Frank Benbini from the FLC on drums and Jo Burt on guitar. With beautiful sounds drifting across the meadow from the uber talented Ward Thomas sisters’ as the sun set on Rookwood, the evening was simply beautiful. We were then treated to a musical feast from Dodgy – few tracks can thrill like ‘Staying Out For The Summer’.
The raucous laughter from Grant Sharkey’s audience travelled around the whole arena as the final act of the night – The DJ set from Frank & Fast from The Fun Lovin’ Criminals – had the crowd jumping around playing FLC favourites and tracks from the legend Prince.
With it’s homely feel, eclectic bill and lots of locally produced food and drink, the evening was a festival triumph… to be repeated!
