Well the great British summer was kind to us on our first ever Rookwood – no rain and a dose of humidity – meant that Rookwood Festival 2016 opened to scorching heat!
Festival goers were treated with an impressive array of food stalls and drinks bars alongside a beautifully lit chill out area and lots of fun activities for adults and children alike.
A line- up of incredible talent provided the ‘music to our ears’ – an eclectic mix of musicians performing across two stages throughout the afternoon and late into the night. Local band Chalk Flowers opened the second stage which begun the continuous sets from artists Ella Davidson, Josh McCormick, Grafted, Head North, Junco Shakers, Solar Wolf, Soul & Fire and Grant Sharkey
Deborah Bonham joined by Frank Belbini on drums and Jo Burt on guitar certainly rocked the Rookwood Field and the incredible vocal talent that is Ward Thomas provided a beautiful and moving performance as the sun set across the meadow. We were then treated to a musical feast from Dodgy – few tracks can thrill like ‘Staying Out For The Summer’. Frank & Fast from The Fun Lovin’ Criminals hit the main stage with their DJ set which was a party we did not want to end – a truly grand finale to what had been a momentous day.
The incredible atmosphere was tangible in the Rookwood fields and to top it all we raised over £15,000 to kick start our #2MillionSteps appeal which launched just days after the festival on the 7th June.
